art vein studio workshops encourage fun, experimentation, and self-reflection within a supportive structure. From mixed media techniques to 3-dimensional works, to paper arts, participants will find diverse ways to express themselves.
Workshops are designed to accommodate all levels—from those with no art experience to those who are seasoned artists wanting to try new directions and fresh encounters with the creative process.
Are creativity workshops the same as art classes? Yes and no. Art = creativity. You should always find creativity in an art class, as you will find art in a creativity class. But often, when people think of an art class, they think primarily of learning how to paint and draw. This is important but it is not the only aspect of art. At art vein studio, the process is more important than the product. The focus is on expression, experimentation, fun, and self- reflection. Through creativity workshops you will find your own creative spark and your own way of expressing yourself.
What if I feel like I don’t have a creative bone in my body? Then art vein studio is the place for you! You may not believe that you are creative but I certainly do! And I will do my utmost to provide a non-threatening, relaxed, and fun environment for you to test out your creative muscles. My motto is: there are no mistakes! My goal is to help you tap into your creative spirit with joy and adventure!
I am a seasoned artist looking to add to my skills. Will I benefit from courses at art vein studio? Definitely! If you are open to the possibilities of experimentation with various materials, through the process you may discover some new techniques or approaches that will be useful in your work. And just the act of trying something new may be enough to trigger a rich wellspring of ideas that will enhance your own art practice or even open a creative block.
What if I am interested in a particular activity that you are not currently offering in your schedule? I am always open to suggestions! And flexible enough to add and adapt! If you have a particular topic that you would like to explore, just contact art vein studio, and if it is within my realm of expertise and philosophy, I will develop a workshop with your needs and preferences in mind. Several of the sessions I am offering now are the result of requests from individuals.
Do you do activities with young children? As the studio is a working studio, it is not “kid-proofed” for younger children, therefore courses and birthday parties for kids start at ages 9 and up. Safety is a priority when doing workshops for any age!
What type of workshops do you offer for groups? Group workshops are custom-built for the particular requirements of the group. If you are a corporate or not-for-profit group who would like to use creative activities as a way to focus on goal-setting or communication, I can devise an agenda to strengthen your team. If you are a group of friends wanting to just have a fun, relaxing day or weekend away from the hustle and bustle of your busy lives, I can organize a creative play session. If you are members of a group wanting to do something to support your own healing, an art retreat is a powerful way to do that. We will work together to develop a program that meets your needs.
If my group comes to Hudson for an art weekend, where could we stay? Hudson is a charming community and there are some lovely places to stay. Within walking distance and very economical is Christina's Cottage, a self-catering vacation rental cottage, in the heart of Hudson. Winterholme B&B is also walking distance, while a short drive away are the Willow Place Inn, Riversmead Bed and Breakfast, and the Brigadoon B&B.
Do you travel to do workshops? Absolutely! If you live a distance away or it is difficult for your group to come to the studio, art vein studio can come to you. If it involves extensive travel and overnight stay, expenses will have to be charged. Call to arrange details.
What materials will I be working with when I take a course at art vein studio? Did I mention eclectic? How long has art vein studio been in existence? The studio opened in January 2007. I originally envisioned art vein studio as a space where I would make my own art. As the idea developed, it became clear that being able to share my knowledge and enthusiasm about various art approaches and techniques through workshops would deepen the creative experience, making it a truly stimulating environment.
What is your art background? I have studied at the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design and am an experienced workshop facilitator. I am an artist and lifelong learner whose life and art have always been eclectic. My art draws from many sources and along my own creative path I have picked up a diverse set of skills and approaches. I enthusiastically share the knowledge and experience I have gained, and continue to gain, along my own creative journey.
