Born in Fredericton, New Brunswick, I
lived in a different place every year
before my family settled on Manitoulin
Island in Northern Ontario when I was
10 years old. Having to constantly
adapt to new people and places has
had a profound effect on the way I
navigate through the world.

On a backpacking trip through Europe
in my early 20’s, I discovered that I had
a good eye for photography and an
appreciation of art but waited many
years before pursuing art seriously.

In the meantime, I worked for 10 years
as an occupational therapist, taught
clinical courses at McGill University,
studied Teaching English as a Second
Language, helped friends run a café,
worked at a B&B, and was the
Executive Director of a not-for-profit
adult literacy organization for 9 years.
These experiences have helped form
my eclectic approach to life and art.

Somewhere in-between my various
pursuits, I headed to art school.
Accepted at the Nova Scotia College of
Art and Design in Halifax, Nova Scotia, I
immersed myself into the creation of
art and discovered an affinity for
making sculpture and intimate crafted
objects.

My work holds themes of containment,
concealment, safety, yearning,
belonging and not belonging. I combine
materials such as paper, thread,
beeswax, metal, and natural objects,
and my work often takes the form of
assemblage, collage, and sculptural
objects.

Having a geologist father and spending
my formative years in Northern
Ontario, my aesthetics are informed by
the rugged pre-Cambrian landscape of
the Canadian Shield and the
sedimentary fossil-rich outcrops of
Manitoulin Island. Recently, I delivered
some training in Nunavik, Quebec, and
have been deeply influenced by the
lonely and rich landscape of the tundra.

I make art as a way of addressing
internal conflict; pursuing the essence
of an idea; finding security through the
creation of beauty and order; and for
the pure pleasure of working with
materials.

I currently live in Hudson, Quebec,
with my spouse, Jerzy, and our dog,
Luka. I facilitate creativity workshops
and make work at
art vein studio.
